I have a interview tommorow for a local bakery as a cake decorator and since this is my first interview in this field Im not sure how much I should ask to get paid. Does anyone have suggestions on what I should write down on my application????? I have 4 yrs experience decorating cakes and I graduated from California culinary academy in 2001 and have just been doing cakes for friends and family since then.

Thanks

I was looking around my area yesterday and saw that a bakery was hiring. Her starting pay was $12-$14 an hour. It also depends a lot on your location and talent. You may be able to get more. Good luck with your interview!

Since you live in the Bay Area, I would ask for at least $14. San Jose is not a small town. If you want to be taken serious then tell them you won't go any lower. You have the experience and the school time to back you up. Good Luck! icon_smile.gif

I get $13 but started on $12 they offered me $10 to start with and I said no they came back with $12 to be discussed at a later date. 6 weeks later I got $13 and I had no buttercream experience when I started only fondant and 3 1/2 years at a pastry kitchen in hotel.

When they ask how much money you want try asking how much they are offering, strangly enough people will oftern just tell you as they are not expecting that as an answer.
Good Luck
