Hmm .. lets see.. Color flow is the term used because after you out line your cookie, you let the color in your bag flow in the empty spaces leaving a perfect shiny smooth surface. No smoothing with a spatula, the color just " flows " were it needs to go. Man , I hope I'm making sense.

Color flow is just like royal icing, but it dries shiney instead of a matte finish. You outline the cookie with a stiffer consistancy, then fill in the cookie with a thinner consistancy. I believe royal dries stronger too, which is good for some of the flowers that can be made (apple blossom, violet, daisy, etc.).

Gumpaste and fondant are pretty much the same too, but gumpaste dries faster and harder than fondant. It's stronger too, so you can roll gumpaste much thinner than fondant, which is good for flowers. Fondant is used more for covering a cake.

colour flow pictures are made using thinned royal icing. it is also the icing that is used to decorate sugar cookies too. like the "cookie bouquets".
you can do a picture in colour flow also. i will upload one i made so you can get an idea.

tips to do the picture:

1.) do NOT put too much colour in the icing...it will not dry or set.
2.) if you can do it all white and paint it after it is dry go ahead. that way it will set.
3.) for fine lines like in faces use a number 1 or 0 tip. you will get more detail.
4.) when filling in with colour dont over fill. it will run over your outline.

thats about it for now.
