I found a MIL that I can love!

First, she gave me her son ("NO refunds, NO returns" she tells me)

Second, she took the kids this afternoon while we went shopping

Third,

SHE GAVE ME CAKE BOOKS!!!

She collects old cookbooks, especially Betty Crocker. She was showing me a recipe from one (1971) and it had techniques I had never heard of, so she starts pulling out more and more. I cam home with a couple cake books, and a 1993 Wilton candy making book, and she's looking for more in her stash.

One technique is petal frosting. I thought it would be an easy and adorable way to do petal cakes. I haven't scanned them yet, but lemme know!

MIL's can be very endearing to us, can't they? My MIL passed away a couple of years ago and I miss her terribly. She is the one who inspired me to get back into cake decorating. She did wedding cakes and when she passed someone in the family had to take over the family tradition of cake decorating. It fell to me because out of all of us I'm the only one who actually likes it. I inherited all of her decorating tools and proudly use them.

Cherish your MIL. Both of you are lucky.

Isn't that great? I was married to my DH for a while before the topic of cake decorating ever came up. Come to find out my MIL did it too, long before her poor fingers curled up like her mother's. So she promised to find all of her pans, pictures, tools, etc... and hand them over to me. Well, her other DIL (my SIL) had them and "couldn't find" icon_mad.gif them but when she divorced my BIL, the pans were found in storage and now they are all mine icon_biggrin.gif I got the everything about 2 months ago and I am so glad my MIL and I have something like that in common!

I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one that LOVES my MIL.....of course for raising one of the most wonderful men I've ever known in my lifetime but also for a million other reasons.....including always being the first to gush over a cake I've made even if I know it looks rediculously amateur!!!

I'm blessed with a wonderful mother-in-law too. She has been like a second mother to me, since my own mother lives so far away. I can't tell you how many times we have tackled last minute cakes together or she has baby sat to help out. My husband passed away recently and this experience has only brought us closer together.

I had a very good MIL, and when I was divorced (many years ago now), I lost her in the settlement, she thought it was "disloyal" for her to talk/spend time with me. That hurt a lot, she'd been my MIL for 28 years!

I think a lot of women have MIL problems, so if you have a good one, appreciate her for sure. Janice
