Does anybody else suffer from longing icon_eek.gif for a special birthday cake just for them? My dream is a chocolate frosted chocolate grooms cake type of birthday cake and I don't want to make it either. I just would love for my husband to even (hate to say it on here) spend big $$ and buy one from a bakery or a fellow decorater. Ahh, I guess that will have to go into the same category as flowers more than once a year.

Flowers once a year?? You lucky lady! Yeah, I'm serious, I'd like to see some flowers again, let alone a cake! I guess the honeymoon is over.

Well.... the way I see it is that if we can afford it....I'm sure my husband would want me to be happy so I treat myself, or tell him exactly what I want and give him the phone number to call or hummmmm.....yeah an Anniversay cake from you to him that you have made just the way you want as a suprise and gift to him!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've tried the whole telling him exactly what I want. It doesn't work unless he has it in his mind that that's what he wants to get me. Besides, where's the spontaneity?

I'm jealous of all of you! My husband can remember every charge number he has; every date that a package he bought, with tracking numbers and date will arrive, how many Vietnamese were left when he came home, etc. But does he know when my or my kids b'days are or our anniversary is? Nope! I finally gave up. I'm one of the weird ones who doesn't like when I get flowers either. So I guess he lucked out!

You might find this funny, but my husband is the one that remembers our anniversary and I forget it. Granted I had 2 brain surgeries at our 5month and 5 1/2 month mark so he chalks it up to that.

After almost 7 years of a rough marriage, I still get roses at least once a month. By rough I mean multiple health issues with myself and my 2 children, ex-wife, ex-husband, in-law issues and a blended family. He has even gone to the extent of buying my favorite cake for me just out of the blue.

I just had my birthday . . . and my honey actually raided the kitchen and baked me a cake!! I work graveyards, so he did it while I was at work. He went through some of my cake books . . . I also keep a notebook of recipes I have tried with notes on the results . . . and he whipped up a cake! It was white cake with buttercream and strawberries on top . . . it was lopsided, a bit dry and most of my supplies were destroyed . . . but I was so flattered that I couldn't stop crying!!! (He wouldnt let me take a picture though, and that killed me.) I'll give him serious brownie points. We were broke this year so he was really creative in his gifts to me . . . and it was absolutely the most special birthday yet!

I read this and thought... I have to share. My hubby would kill me if he found out I posted this but..... Last year while I was at work he and the kids made my birthday cake - he busted out the icing bags, tips and all! I was super proud of him - he said it is the ugliest birthday cake ever and didn't even want me to take a pic of it. I thought it was the sweetest thing! My sister wanted me to make my own baby shower cake just months earlier icon_eek.gif . Anyway - I wanted to share my sweetie with ya'll! Not too bad for a man with a 4 month old, 4 year old and 9year old "helping" icon_wink.gif

Do you have a decorator friend? Maybe the two of you could do one another's birthday and anniversary cakes. That way, you could each get what you want, etc. Of course, you may have to set a limit as to the cost, etc.

I did this for a friend's birthday. She is not a decorator but she does other things for me. I knew her husband would never think of it and her children are small so I called him and volunteered to make it. That way, she got a good cake and he looked like a hero.

Missycompoc - he did a great job! You & Katie have got winners! And so do I!

My dh is wonderful & helps me a lot. I'm so grateful for him. He cooks, but doesn't like to bake. He gets Paula Deen or Emeril recipes & cooks for me on the weekends.
