Conflicting Wilton Serving Charts - Help!

Hello all! I was kind of a new member earlier this year, but disappeared for a couple of months because I got pregnant (hooray!) with my second child and had too much morning sickness to even think about cake! Thankfully, that is over now so I am back!
Anyway, I am making my first stacked cake this weekend for my SIL's baby shower, and I am freaking out about the serving sizes. I had been using the chart in my Wilton "Decorating Cakes - A Reference and Idea Book," and after reading the thread aviles2005 started here: http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-435513.html, I decided the Wilton chart was the way to go. But then I realized that the chart in my book is different than the Wilton chart online: http://www.wilton.com/cake/cakeprep/baking/times/party_2inch.cfm I am very confused. Both charts are for party servings (1 1/2 x2 in) and both are for 2 layer, 4" high cakes, so how can the serving sizes be different??!! ![]()
I am making an 8" cake on a 10" cake. According to the book, this would be 12 + 24 = 36 servings. According to Wilton's webiste, this would be 20+28 = 48 servings. This seems like a huge difference to me (30% difference!) I thought I had this all figured out, but now I am freaking out about how much cake I need. I was wondering which you all use when you use the Wilton serving estimates? Thanks for your help!
My book says "Copyright 2006, reprinted June 2006" and I just got it last year, a couple of months after it was reprinted. I am just confused because according to the charts they are using the same dimensions for the servings, so that shouldn't change, right? I have a headache! ![]()
I always go by the most current Wilton YB. I saw the ones on-line, also and was confused. I guess the YB has always worked for me since I haven't run out of cake at an event yet!
I like that the YB specifies 'Party servings' vs 'Wedding servings', too.
Good luck!
I never rely on the Wilton charts because I find it unrealistic so it's a good idea to size things out to your slices.
Err on the side of the larger slices.
