I am making a wedding cake with for-get-me-nots and apple blossoms out of gum paste. I am looking at the directions with all the wiring and stuff. Couldn't I just make the flowers and attach them to the cake with royal icing? I think that would be a heck of a lot faster instead of wiring them. They will stay on the cake just as well right? I am just trying to save some time here. Any ideas would be appreciated. thanks.

I don't see why not, if they are going on top of the cake but if they are cascading or on the side, I think you need to use wires or they might not stay.

I also was looking at the wired directions and thinking icon_confused.gif

I have attached flowers before to the sides of cakes with the icing and some of then tend to come off but I just bring my icing bag and reglue them. It just seems like an awful lot of extra work using the wiring and everything. i am just looking for some shortcuts.

If they are just going to be attached to the sides of the cake, just use either royal icing or dots of piping gel. The wiring is usually intended for sprays and wiring tiny flowers is a BEAR!
