ok, well i made the NFSC lsat night, they turned out lovely....kids loved them , hubby likes them, i thought they were really good too....but i made Tobas glaze to go on them and it was so runny that i couldnt do anything with it except use it to cover completly...any suggestions?
also, no matter what I did they always got to dark around the edges...i cut them thicker , baked shorter, moved rack to very top , nothing helped...so does anyone know what i can do to stop that from happening?
so needles to say...just about all the cookies got eaten w/o and decorations on them...
do you have an oven thermometer??? Are you sure that your oven isn't too hot??? Could be the type of cookie sheet you're using too.........is it dark metal, light metal.....all of these variables make a difference......also whether or not you used margarine or butter can make a difference.
I use tobas icing on my NFSC. I just put some to the side and add extra powdered sugar to thicken it. It takes a good bit of sugar to thicken it, so don't be afraid to pour it in! Then I outline with the thickened icing, let it dry, and fill in with the thinner icing. I hope this helps!! I haven't had the problem with the dark edges, so I'm not sure I can help there. I do make my cookies really thich, though, maybe that would help? GOOD LUCK!
hummm i never thought that it might be my oven..cause when i bake my cakes i drop the temp by 25 degrees...so maybe i should do that with my cookies too...thanks yall
Have you tested the temp in your oven? I know mine was off by 25 degrees, and is very touchy about where the knob is, so I make sure it is at temp before baking. Also, switch sheets between baking so one is cooling while the other is baking. That will keep the pan from being too hot.
My cookies (1st try today) were 1/4 thick, baked 10 minutes straight from the refrigerator. Light golden on the edges left a crispy outside and soft inside. PERFECT RECIPE!
WTG gmama...mine were a little too dark for my liking around the edges but let me tell you...there is only 1 left...my hubby and kids ate them ALL!!! lol so they must have been good. I plan to make soe more tomorrow. Think i may make the dough tonight...lol ( my 3yro wont go to sleep lol)
