Hello,
I want to make a cake for a lady who works in our library and she has been very nice and helpful to me.
Outside of library, I do not know her very well (like her interests or hobbies). I don't want to make a book cake for her. I want something else... somehting unusual... but I haven't been able to come up with any ideas icon_cry.gif
I NEED HELP..... detective.gif
Thanks,

Hmmm...no book cake.

Maybe a cake that looks like your local library card?
And then make a list of Overdue books??

Hope that helps

library themed:

the old rubber stamp they used to mark due date
or
the rubber stamp they used to put name of library on book

----

fine notice: -- for getting older! (overdue age)

----

modern hand held scanner w/ bar code connected to a computer terminal? (the modern librarians tool)

charmed,

That is kind of hard specially since the first thing that comes to mind is a book cake.

Do you have the precious moments cake pan, or even the flower pot cake pan. Do she like flowers? How old is she i know alot of people like flowers maybe make her a simple round cake with roses just saying thank you. Sorry i was not able to help you more, specially since you don't know her that well.

Good Luck,

Try something with an odd shape, say a comma pan, decorated with quotes from variuos books. She's a librarian and may recognize them.
(an 8'' squared cake will do nicely too)
Just an idea that came to mind.

What about picking a book theme...like Harry Potter.

Or

Since she knows that you are doing a project or if you keep checking the same books out, she knows something about what you are working on run with a theme on that.

Ok, like I mentioned in the other thread, how about a drawer with index (not reference) cards.

Here's a link to their discription on Wikipedia, with a pic.

I love the idea of the quotes. Perhaps quotes about reading & books? I really like the look of the stacked wedding cakes that have text written all the way around them. You could cover a cake in fondant and write the text with a food marker if you didn't want to pipe it on.

on the ccc that I took to the local library I put the Thomas Jefferson quote, "I can not live without books."

It's in my pictures.
Famous lines from books would be really cute too.

I like this one for going on a cake:

You don't say what kind of librarian : Reference, children's, etc. That might help.

Well, this is unusual. It's a hornbook.

I like the idea of a book quote on a pretty sheet cake. I think Thanh Thanh's are some of the prettiest I've seen.

When you say you don't want to do a book cake- do you mean the open book or a stack of books? Or do you just think that is too obvious of a choice?

I do like the idea of famous quotes from well known authors. If you find out anything more about her you may be able to personalize it a bit more- poems, history, science fiction, murder mystery, romance, etc.

You could make a 'stamp' on the cake with the name of the library she works for, her name, and the date of 'check out'(her last worked day).

you could do a stacked cake - maybe 6 and 8 rounds - write quotes on the sides of the cake and top it off with flowers or a pair of reading glasses on a chain (to hang around the neck...)

You could always do a cupcake cake with little cute things on each cupcake for spring or summer. Such as Butterfly's, flower's, just different little cute things on each cupcake. On a cake stand thing. That way your separating a bit from the library thing and recognizing her as a person not just a "librarian". She might appreciate that.
my 2 cents. Good luck
