HI, I have to do a barbie cake w/a fondant gown & I am wondering the best way to adhere the fondant to her skinny, size zero (I'm jealous) body-do I put icing on it, or just wet it...not sure any suggestions appreciated!

I personally have never done one of those cakes, but I think most people bake a cake that is the shape of the bottom part of the dress (basically a dome) using the Wonder Mold pan or with a Pyrex bowl. Then you could stick Barbie's body into it or buy a Wilton doll pick (whick look like Barbie IMO) and then frost the cake and cover it with fondant.

If that's not the direction you wanted to go with this, you could just put frosting on Barbie where you want the fondant to be form-fitting and then just let the bottom part drape down.

HTH!

i've made 2 of these cakes and didn't use anything to adhere the fondant to the Wilton Barbie pick thing.....if it's not sticky enuff, a little water will help with that.....just practice and give it a try.....another thing that's easier than it looks :0)

I agree with the water, but i know that when making flowers with gumpaste a perfect glue is to use 1 part water to 1 part meringue powder and use a small brush to apply it. if you dont have the meringue powder on hand already, a TINY bit of water brushed on the backside of the fondant should do the trick just fine. if you use icing, i'd imagine it could shift and slide off that valuptious size 0 plastic body of hers. LOL!

I made a 2.5 inch strip and just put it on her. It stuck without a problem.
