I know most of us have seen or eaten the Cookies by Design cookies. They are extremely expensive and very bland. Yesterday I had my son with me and had to waste some time so we went into that store since they were having a sale on cookies plus I wanted to check out their newest designs. As soon as we walked in the girl at the counter said "Do you want anything or are you just gonna look?" Even my son was taken back by the rude comment. As I grabbed their catalog I said "After that rude comment, I don't want your cookies!" And walked out.
That's why we all need to make our own cookies for others and if you choose it, sell them. Companies like that are too big for their britches! What a salesman!

After my pizzas were ready (that's why I had time to kill) I thought maybe they were closing up and I was in at the wrong time. Nope. They were open for another 2 hours! Sad. Noticed that their cookies are VERY thick now. Never used to be that thick. Weren't even decorated the way they USED to be when they first opened. Icing is getting very hurried and sloppy. Guess everyone here on CC are just perfect, that's all! icon_biggrin.gif

I've always wondered how their cookies tasted but wasn't willing to pay to price to find out.

From another perspective (and please remember I wasn't there and I'm not trying to start an argument). The salespeople in these kinds of places are usually young kids with no sales training. It could be that the last few people answered this salesperson in an annoyed tone of voice "I'm just looking" when he asked if he could get them something. Maybe he just expressed himself badly and he meant "I don't mean to bother you,but can I help you or do you just want to browse?"

He may be just as baffled by your aggravated response as you are annoyed by his question. Maybe he was trying (poorly) to do better than he had with his last customers. Just from the few comments here, I'll bet a lot of people ARE jsut looking and this person isnt' sure how to handle it.

Maybe we could give the benefit of the doubt here before we start "bashing as usual" on this thread?

No, this was no youngster! And the owner was right next to her. The only reason I knew that was because a few years earlier I ordered a bouquet from them. The owner didn't blink an eye as the rudeness. Case closed. Will never go in there again.

Unfortunately the rudeness and just plain being ignored has become a big problem in this country as far as I'm concerned. You get it at Wal-Mart, the grocery stores, the hobby stores the clothing stores the fast food restaurants, its everywhere. This is a true pet -peeve of mine. Most of the employees are young minimum wage workers, some are not. However this to me always reflects poor management. Training people how do deal with the public is crucial, especially with kids, they do not have a clue about the working world and somebody needs to get them straight on how to be respectful and courteous. My other peeve is employers allowing people that cannot speak English to answer the phone or be on a drive-thru. Today as an example I had to call tech support on a computer issue, the person I spoke with was of middle east area. I spent more time saying I am sorry but I don't understand what you said. I was on the phone for 2 hours! I could go on, just hit a nerve.

Although they may be an independent franchise, they still have to answer to the corporate offices.

I would like to suggest that you contact them and let them know what happened. Here is the contact link for them:

http://www.cookiesbydesign.com/contactus.aspx

I have had to contact corporate offices in the past, when the service I received was so appalling that there would be no way that I would ever enter the establishment again. Results in my favor were definitely obtained.

No excuse for any rudeness..but I think the fact that they are franchised-therefore, have to follow strict corporates rules leads to a lack of pride in their product and stores. Their product is mass-produced, tasteless, and over-priced in MHO. That is why so many "smaller" bakers, like the ones here, are finding success.

I haven't been there in a looooong time! I bought one bouquet for them and remember paying $35.00 for bout 5 cookies! icon_eek.gif And this was back in 1998. I remember the year because I was very pregnant with my first child and had to carry this heavy cookies to my car, parked a few blocks away.

Anyway, they were sugary and tasty. Maybe they have changed but I would think the owner of these company will like the quality and service to be the best!

I would also contact their website and let them know of your experience. Let me know as well of the franchise location you went to.

I believe in expressing my concerns to a company when things like this happen.

Unfortunately, when we make or receive calls to some companies, our calls are routed to outside the US. Hence, the trouble in communication.

If you think that we can't understand them, think how confusing we must sound to them.

Sorry that you had that bad experience....maybe they were just having a bad cookie day icon_lol.gif

cupcake - your tech support person was probably not even in America. Many large companies have outsourced their customer service and tech suppport to India for the cheap labor. Nevermind that you get horrible cutomer service because you can't understand anything they're saying.

That's true! My dad called a company re: a problem with his computer and he was actually talking to someone IN India! Not even in the U.S.

I just looked at the Cookies By Design.

I can certainly say that if I'm asked to make this type of cookie and the customer complains about the cost, I'll recommend that they check out the website--I'll look like a hero if I only ask for $2/cookie vs. $6+++

I'm surprised that they get any business at those prices, but I guess someone in a real hurry might do anything..... icon_rolleyes.gif

When I was in the hospital during my "almost fatal" car accident happened, someone gave me a cookie bouquet from them. I took one bite and I gave it away.. It is very bland, very dry and taste stale. I never bought any cookie from these people and I don't think I would ,even w/out a rude comment said to me.

You did the right thing. Besides you were just killing time and not really wanting to taste. Their cookies taste just as bad as the attitude that sells them. thumbs_up.gif

Ok you guys....I used to work at a Cookies by Design ! There not all the bad.... They are all independantly owned though. The cookies on a stick were $6 when I was there last. After I had quit, I went back for the first two weeks in feburary to help out with valentines day orders and decorating other cookies (which I must say,I did a nice job on them =) And I found out they raised their price to $7 for the cookie on a stick. I do like their gourmet cookies though, those were pretty good. Those cookies can take anywhere from 5-12 minutes to decorate.I'd have to agree, those sugar cookies did taste a little to "flourly",kinda bland.I enjoyed working there,I had great coworkers and alot of fun....Anyways,just filling you guys in with some info icon_wink.gif . Thank you for sharing. It all depends, as we can see from your story.

How big are the cookies, if you don't mind me asking? Some people have suggested charging I believe $1.00 per 1 inch of the cookie.

Okay, this is my final post and I am going to apologize openly since I have received a VERY verbal, opinionated and irate email from a fellow CC member who actually wanted me thrown from this site:

I openly apologize to all 'Asians' that I mistakenly called Orientals. I was informed that 'orientals' are rugs not 'Asian people'. Also note that I was not taking a slam at them, I was talking about a story that happened to me that I thought was funny about miscommunication. Then I was told that not everyone in the U.S.A. knows how to say NO to someone whether it is shaking of the head or passing of the hand in a NO fashion. (I was referring to a customer I had at a restaurant). This email was from someone who took something out of context and ran with it! I have apologized to him previously, but aparently that was not good enough and he would not accept that. So therefore, I apologize to ANYONE of any race, creed, culture, living, working, whatever, hoping to end something that this person took offense to. CASE CLOSED!
