Any of you going to the Tulsa sugar art show ? Or any of you've been to the sugar art show ? This will be my first trip to Tulsa,so I'm looking for some good hotel rates too ! I've watched it on the food network a few times and it looks fun and interesting to go to,maybe take a class or two.So my questain is..is it worth the time (and money) to go to? Does it take up alot of the fairgrounds ?
I live only like 30 minutes away from Tulsa and have been to the Sugar Art Show several years now. I think it is like $7.00 (guessing) to get into the fair and the Sugar Art Show is inside the Expo building so it is free once you get inside the gates. They usually have the cakes on one end of the building. Outside the expo is a huge oilman statue that is bigger than the building...if you are inside of the building and that man is in front of you then the cakes should be on the right hand side of the building if that makes sense. I hope I am not confusing you. I'm sure once you get inside there will be people you can ask. I think they might also have a brochure of the fair as well that will also tell you. If you have any more questions feel free to ask me. I hope you go and have a good time! I always enjoy going to see the cakes. You can bet I'll be checking those out! There are alot of talented people there! ![]()
I was also going to tell you that the fair website, if you want to check everything out, you can google it Tulsa State Fair. Once you get inside the website it has different titles at the top of the page and you can go to the "Creative Arts" section and it has the "Oklahoma Sugar Art show" listed below it in which you can click on it to read about what it will be like. Hope that helps!
I'll be going and I should be working on my entries instead of being on this site! This site truly is addicting.
I think it's worth going because I get to see friends from all over the world. The demos are great and very helpful. There are some great vendors there as well selling great toys....tools. ![]()
If you enter a cake, you will be included in prize drawings. You get one ticket for each tier or other type of entry that you bring. Some of the prizes are pretty good.
I hope you enter.

They need to create your own division! You do amazing work!

MaryAnn,
Thank you for the amazing compliment! I'm already in Master's, I don't think I could take on any more competition!
I wish the judges thought of my work as much as you and some others, but I haven't made top 3 of the Wedding Competition yet. It's not likely I will this year either. I've heard that there are at least 80, yes 80 cakes!
Michele
I'll be there! Entering my first competition....YIKES!!
I too, need to be working on my cake.....but here I am!
What all is there to do at the show? I got my entry documents yesterday, but didn't mention what demos/classes there would be other than the one class that was $200.....won't be taking that one I'm afraid.....

I competed last year for the first time and it was sooo much fun. I was definately kept busy between all the foodnetwork stuff, all the entries, the demos and then the vendors. I really want to compete again, but I am not sure if I am going to have the time, but I do want to at least go and see the cakes. I loved running into people I see on tv. I got to meet Bronwen Webber, Keegan Gearhart, my hero Rebecca Sutterby, Lori Cossou, and Kerry Vincent. I also place for my entries 2nd and 3rd (not bad for my first time) and because I got to meet and talk to the vendors one of my entries was in Mailbox News magazine. I cannot say how much fun it was!!
Food Network will be there, probably shooting Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I don't think there is going to be a challenge this year though. Last year the challenge changed from groom's cake to a wedding cake for a couple getting married that weekend.
There might be a challenge, but I did not see it mentioned on the information web site. That doesn't mean won't change though.
Hope to see you guys there! Everyone should enter something. What you see on TV is the top stuff. There are divisions for children, teens, beginners and up. Judges are different every year for the divisional and the wedding cakes, so you never know how a piece will do. Please, never think that your work is not worthy. Take something. Just think how thrilled you will be to place in such a large show. It's also a great way to improve your skills.
