I decided I'd try my hand at petits fours- even though just about everyone on here kept saying that they're a huuuuge hastle...Of course, I had to think that I was the exception to the rule! Four hours later, I have about twenty terrible looking, oddly shaped, oozing petits fours covered in grainy pinkish poured fondant that tastes a little like Pledge. Oh well. I did learn a lot about what NOT to do, and my husband seems to like them.
I have never gotten as brave so kudos to you! Like reenie said at least you tried! that's a lot more than I can say!

Let me guess...lemon extract? (Of course, I'm wondering how you know what Pledge tastes like.
)
I'm sorry they were a disappointment. I had a similar experience with petit fours, except that mine had waxy poured chocolate icing instead of grainy poured fondant. I learned a lot about what works/doesn't with petit fours, but in 20 years, I can't say I've actually made them again to apply this knowledge.
I've made them before too. Like everyone else I learned alot....especially that I won't even try again! Who would of thought that a lil' ole' piece of cake could kick my butt...LOL
I also attempted to make these a couple of months ago. They were a NIGHTMARE!! Mine tasted good, but they didn't look very good! I sent most of them home with my best friend's husband (He LOVES sweets)! I think they must take some MAJOR work to perfect!
Misshapen oozing Pledge squares. LOL ![]()

My first and only experience with petit fours was similar. I was doing them for a relative's bridal shower, and those stupid things were so ugly I almost went to the grocery store and bought a sheet cake. I was actually in tears wondering how I could bring these ugly things to the shower. I turned them into mini-cakes and they actually turned out ok, but now when people ask if I do petit fours, I smile and say "nope!"
