I got an email last night from some guy that is interested in a cake for his daughter's birthday. He asked for info on a half sheet cake. I respond and give him the info, telling him my half sheets are about twice the size/weight of Walmart's and will give him approximately 40 servings. I also told him I make quarter sheets and they serve approximately 20. This morning I get an email back from him saying he only needs 30 servings. He asked if I could cut a half sheet down to 30 servings and make that for him or not make it quite so tall. Can you imagine? Would he ask Walmart or a bakery to do that? I emailed him back, saying "sure, I could cut it down to make it 30 servings but I still have to make enough cake to fill the half sheet cake pan so the cost would be the same as a half sheet cake". I wonder if I'll hear back from him??? hehehe

Perhaps offer to do the 20 serving and also a small round cake for an additional 10 servings? Or cupcakes?

Good grief, I would steer this guy to the half sheet. He sounds like the type who forgets to add in his family members to the count, or wants to serve generous portions to his guests.

You laugh out loud and tell him no that can't be done. Then ask him if he wants the smaller or the larger cake.

"Oh, walmart .... I'm on a diet and I just need half an apple. Could you cut one in half for me and just sell me that half? Oh, and I'm making a recipe that calls for 1/4 cup of milk. Can you open a half gallon and pour me a 1/4 cup and tell me how much that will cost?"

Yeah......THAT'LL work!
