icon_biggrin.gif
I'll start off with a simple question.............

I love The Lords of the Rings. I really like the Ents (sp) the trees, not sure why, I like the way they talk and figure things out, and I'd like to ride on one, sit on its shoulders and take a walk through the forests. I really like all the charaters in all three movies. We have all the movies at home and get them out often and rewatch them. But we like fantasy and sci-fi stuff. When the first movie came out, one of the restaruant chains put out mugs with four of the people and had LED lights in the bottom that looked like the Ballroge (sp) from the first movie. I got two sets one to use and one to keep.

Hey arwin, you know I am here! Haven't pulled out my book yet--have to finish reading the Davinci Code first.

My favorite character? Hmmm. That would be a tough one... icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif In the movie, obviously Legolas. I got ragged on so much for liking him because he was the "king" of one-liners and of the obvious, but um, who kicked butt the most?!? That's right, THE ELF! icon_lol.gif

It has been awhile since I read the book (that's why it is time again), but I really like Farimir. Just his whole gentle nature and feeling so sorry for him with how his father treated him (boy, that part in the movie still makes me cry!). Gandalf is another favorite too. Though, just fresh from reading the Harry Potter series again, all I seem to picture is Dumbledoore... icon_redface.gif

I love the movies! I can't wait to read the books! Not sure when it's gonna happen...I have 3 kids...so the books have been on my "to do" list for a while. I also really loved the animated movies when I was a kid.

Find some to read the story! The movies were absolutely amazing but the written story is INCREDIBLE! It took me over a year to read the book (with a time off to take care of my daughter who was born in the middle of my reading). One, I'm a slow reader and two, I had little time to read with a newborn, and a 2-and 4-year-old running around. But I finally finished it and loved it! I so need to read it again!

And those animated movies--LOVED them!!! We bought The Hobbit. Rented The Fellowship of the Ring and, well, it was more awful than I remember. icon_sad.gif

My family & I LOVE Lord of The Rings (and Harry Potter and Star Wars too). We are total nerds and are proud of it thumbs_up.gif My daughter had just turned 5 when Return of the King came out in theaters and I took her to see it twice; she just loved it! She had (of course) seen the other two movies on DVD several times, so she was more than prepared. Once or twice I leaned over to whisper an explanation to her and she shushed me saying "I know that!" Let's see, favorite character? I might have to go with Faramir also. He was always strong and secure in himself and knew what the right course of action was regardless of what his father wanted. I love Theoden also, and, well so many of them! I could go on and on icon_redface.gif

emilykakes - you have to read the books! I loved the movies also, but the books are something special.

My boys love the movies too! My oldest son just turned 4 when The Towers came out and he begged to see it at the theater. We took him to see it while it was at the IMAX (AWESOME) and he loved it. Of course, he did not understand some things, but he really liked all the action--and nope not afraid of anything. My youngest so who is only 5 now, has seen them all on DVD and loves them too--they both have a lot of LOTR toys. Well, I have some toys too, but they all revolve around Legolas. icon_wink.gif Besides reading the book again, I have been wanting to reserve a day to watch all three extended versions of the movies, but have yet to come by an entire day to veg and watch tv.

Oh, I so wish "they" (Peter Jackson included) will figure out if they are going to make the Hobbit--that would be great too!

Hey everybody! glad to see so many responses! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif
My fav hmmmmmmmmm.....
of course the ever so handsome Legolas!!
and Aragorn, and Farimir, (Baromer) was o.k. but you sure could see the weakness in him eh?
Sam did so well, i was getting mad at him for always trying to protect Frodo. (i think that i'm going on a tangent re: everybody)
Q: does anyone know where i could get an Urichi mask for halloween?
i've looked all of the web, and to no avail.
My fav. female character is of course..... Arwen. love her, i think she is so pretty, and hangs on to her love for Aragorn and believes that she and he will live together forever (almost)
i'm foing to stop, cuz my eldest is having a fit cuz i'm on the computer, and he needs to play with his friend, some ancient army game on line.
write tomorrow
LOTR fans, and cake lovers!!

Are you really suggesting that the Lord Of The Rings will take precedence over my CC addiction??? LOL! I am really loving the book....When I am finished I am going to go back and watch the movies again.

I am wondering about everyone's opinions on Tolkien's other books?

I enjoyed The Hobbit, but I think you need to be a REALLY BIG FAN in order to read The Silmarillion. I tried to read it, but it is written in a different style that I find harder to read so I haven't gotten through the whole thing yet. I set it aside and will make an effort to get back to it. I just bought the Unfinished Tales, compiled by Tolkien's son, and am looking forward to that because it gives background to and expands on some things touched on in the other books.

Read and really like the Hobbit--such an easy read compared to LOTR. Have not read The Silmarillion yet. Hope to at some point, but I have heard that it is a hard read, and bluehen92 has added another confirmation. I'm not sure I have time for a difficult read right now--I'm slow as it is. icon_lol.gif

I too tried to read the Simlarillion. Got through page 1, i think. I was not in the frame of mind to read that type of style, need to concentrate more! dunce.gif and that hurts my nogginn'
but i did start on the hobbit last week, almost through 1/2 way, very easy read, love it.
then just to find my LOTR books!! i have 2 sets of them, but in the move i have "lost" most of my books. DH thinks that i should get rid of my books, "u don't read them anyway" well dunce.gif can't read them if i can't find them!!
but will still keep looking.
oh by the way............remember i said that i had spent so much time on the web store that i was supposed to be making a bd cake? well, when i finally tore myself away from the computer, i put on the LOTR movie, and started making flowers like no ones business!! wow it went fast, i guess with a familiar sound in the background i relaxed, and all was well in my little cake making world!!

Well the rumor is that the movie, "The Hobbit" will be made in the next two to three years in two parts. Here is a comment on it;

MGM studios, who currently hold the rights to J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, has announced plans to go ahead and produce the Lord Of The Rings prequel as part of its future "tentpole" strategy, reports Variety.

MGM plans to partner with New Line, who produced the Rings trilogy, on the film, and studio chairman Harry Sloan hopes to bring Peter Jackson in to direct. The studio also intends to go ahead with production of Terminator 4.

Peter Jackson has not signed off on it yet though.

Just wanted to pass this site along. It is really cool. You can transcribe words to the Tengwar script. I tried so hard to understand the Elvish language, but man it is really rough. icon_redface.gif But, this little tool is pretty cool. I found it ages ago. I have copies of my kid's names in Tengwar and one day plan to get them as a tattoo (when I become brave! icon_lol.gif ).

http://tengwar.art.pl/tengwar/ott/english.php

Here is a link directly to the transcriber: http://tengwar.art.pl/tengwar/ott/start.php?l=en Under the output format area, choose the PNG radio button, and then try the different Tengwar outputs in the dropdown (next to the font size), but be sure to always select the PNG button.

Have fun!

I think my favorite characters are the Hobbits. I love how they have no idea that they are small - and even if they do, they don't let it stop them.

I am glad to hear from other fans. I have an embarrassing quirk. I bought every single Toybiz 6" action figure from the first movie, and a bunch from the second and third. I have boxes and boxes in my closets, under beds, in storage etc. Literally hundreds of dollars :0. I love these figures!! It's just not something I tell everyone icon_smile.gif.

icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif Okay, I did not go as far as getting every figure, but... I have a Legolas one, and I got my hubby Faramir. We also have a number of other larger and smaller toys for the kids (Gandalf, Aragorn, ringwratih...). But, I do collect other toys. I have a bunch of the McFarlane Movie Maniacs toys (Alien Vs. Predator, Jaws, Edward Scissorhands, The Matrix, Candy Man and The Lord of Darkness from Legend), plus non-McFarlane toys: 12" Spiderman, Green Goblin, Doc Oc, and Neo. And these are all at work spread across my desk and book shelves. At home I still have yet to bring in a 12" Teminator, Blade, and Hell Boy and tons of other smaller toys. Don't hide those toys! Bring them out in the open and enjoy them!! icon_biggrin.gif

Don't be embarrassed dydemus, I'd love to have all of them too! We have a bunch of the 6" action figures "for the kids" of course! I think we have all of the main characters & also have Elendil & Gil-Galad. We have a big Ringwraith because they are my daughter's favorite. I would LOVE for them to have Legos because we have a bunch of Harry Potter & Star Wars Lego sets. I just love them!!
