I was wanting to make a purse cake for my sister and was looking at the one in Confetti Cakes. The recipe says to make 3 half sheet cakes. I really don't need that much cake. How could I do this with less cake? Any suggestions?

Use three small square cakes or even three 9X13 sheets.

check out the purse cake in my photos, i made it using the confetti cakes instructions. i baked two 10x10 square cakes, cut them each in half, and stacked them to make a big block that was 10x5. i put a cardboard in the middle and supports in the bottom too. it was the perfect amount of cake for the party, about 25-30 servings. of course a lot of the guests were kids, as it was for my nieces b-day and they don't eat as much.

Thank you renie & beccakelly. I really appreciate your replies. I'm going to start baking right now. It's raining and a great day for baking. I'm a little afraid of carving but I'm going to give it a try anyway.

I love that cake from Confetti Cakes! I was going to try it one day! I would do it with the 10" square pans which is what I planning to do. That way when you carve it down you don't have that much wasted.

Yes, beccakelly...Your creations are beautiful!
