I loved seeing it on Ace of Cakes, and I know I've seen some cakes here done that way. Does anyone know how to do it or have any tips? Also how do you make the tiny piping bags the seem to use. Can you buy that size of parchment paper or do you have to cut down regular size?
Get the 12 or 10 inch parchement bags.
The design is a henna design and if you search on google, you can find photos of it. Then just copy that is my guess. It sure is pretty!
Click on the left side where it says designs.

I tried my hand at a henna cake the last few days after seeing the one of AOC. It's not as easy as it looks! I think I should have stuck to a more simple design, mine ended up looking like a kid scribbled all over it. Not my best effort! I'll attach pics later today.
I just checked out one of the henna websites listed above (I think it was the second one) and I found a link to get freebies:

Haven't really looked at it much yet, but thought I'd pass it on.

Like jstritt, I get the 15" bags and cut them in half- I don't like them small than that cuz I always end up with it on me.
But the little half size work great for small things like that. Haven't tried mendhi myself, but watching that this week made me want to try!
I have been asked to do a baby shower cake for someone from India. She didn't request that it be traditional to her country, but I would love to add some mehndi to the border around the cake as a nice touch. Are there certain designs that mean certain things? I don't want to offend anyone. Thank you.

Michele,
I would maybe stick with paisleys or floral designs, they are neutral to all occasions. Though there aren't specific designs, I would maybe run this by her, because just because she's from India, doesn't mean that she'll necessarily want a "mendhi" design on the cake, she just may want it traditional baby shower. Just my thoughts.
