Does Anyone Want To Own Up To The Cake I Saw This Weekend?

This past weekend I was at the Oklahoma State Fair, and in the cake section of the craft building was the most realistic "bucket of apples" I have ever seen. Ufortunately my camera is broken and didn't get a picture and before I could look at the name on the card a large group of people came in moving things and we kind of got pushed to the side and well, got side tracked LOL.
But honestly this was the most realistic cake I have ever seen. It was a wooden bucket shaped cake with fondant outside to look like wood and the apples at the top were also fondant it looked like and painted to look surprisingly real.
I was just hoping maybe the creator was a member here and I could tell them how amazed I was at their cake. It had a 1st place ribbon on it ofcourse ![]()

I saw that one too, but that's not it. That one is pretty spiffy though ![]()
I saw the cake too! It was extremely well done, especially for the amateur division. I can't remember her name right now, but do remember that she is from Edmond, OK. She did a couple of other cakes as well that were very impressive. I hope to see her and her work in Tulsa.
If I remember or find out her name I'll let you know.

I don't know if she's a member of CC or not, but I did find the name of the cake artist at the OK State Fair website. She is Sharla Fields from Edmond, OK. Darn, no pictures!! I really wanted to see it.

Thank you all so much for your posts! I just found cakecentral this past week. I was looking for ideas for a hot dog cake and signed up. I had no idea that my cake had made such an impression. I was very excited with my ribbons from the Oklahoma State Fair but floored when I had placed at Tulsa. I really didn't go expecting to place at all. I was giddy all day that Sunday! I had such a blast at Tulsa and just want to say that everybody's cakes were beautiful!!
Thank you!

It's very masterfully done Sharla... I hope you don't mind us asking a little of your techniques and coloring ideas...
What kind of cake is it and is it your own recipe for the decorating?
5 Aces! ![]()

No I cannot take credit for the idea. I saw one done on the food network months ago and I had an itch to try one. I couldn't remember how they did theirs so I did my best! The basket is covered with cut strips of fondant and applied so they overlapped. Then I used brown food color and lemon extract to paint the basket. I used gray buttercream for the staples. For the apples I covered them in electric green colored fondant and I poked the whole at the top and then used poppy red petal dust and blushed them. Then inserted the stems. The one on tv was incredible really. Mine doesn't even compare!
A beautiful, beautiful cake. Thanks for telling us hoow you did it.
