I've been thinking A LOT about doing cake decorating as a career. I've taken 2 of the Wilton classes and am waiting to take the rest.
Do you think it's a good idea to go to a pastry school or is that just a waste of (LOTS) of money? I know schooling always helps and looks good, but it's a big expensive decision.
Do any of you work in bakeries or cake decorating companies? How did you get hired and what do they look for in someone new?
And have any of you gone to culinary schools for baking/cakes?

Just trying to get all the info I can on how to do this right! Thanks a million.

I've taken four Wilton classes and am hooked too. I know that our local vocational school / career center will offer a brand new evening program for adults that will last 6 months called bakery and pastry arts. It meets four hours a night, four nights a week. It costs $2500 and includes textbooks, supplies, and materials. If you don't have a pastry school in your area, you may want to look for something like this.

Good luck following your dream. Hope this helps,

Suzanne
