My Wilton fondant mat (my second one) is always curled on the corners and driving me crazing. I wrote a thread about it a couple months ago and got some good ideas on how to uncurl it but they are worse now then ever. So I need to know another silicone mat that I can purchase that WILL NOT roll on the corners. I don't care how much I have to spend (I think) to get a good one. Anyone know of any??? thanks

I took the suggestions of some of the other CC's and bought vinyl from Wal-Mart and it works fantastic and is really inexpensive. Get the thickest that they have as it stays in place better and is easier to roll (IMO).

I bought a large sheet of vinyl at the fabric store (learned this from CC) for rolling my fondant. I think a 36"x 60" peice cost me $3.99. I cut it in half and now I have two really large sheets. Its great b/c I can lift the whole thing, flip the fondant onto my cake and then peel the vinyl off with no stretching from the fondant. It does not stick either. It is one of the absolute best peices of advice I've gotten from this site. thumbs_up.gif

When I use my Wilton fondant mat, I put a small piece of rolled masking tape under each corner to prevent it from slipping, and the corners from rolling up.

I don't have one of these yet but I do know that when I have laminated things like posters and such if they get curled on the edges I wash with really hot water and dry off excess water, lay flat on the dining table with books on the edges to help the curling and then I store it inbetween my mattress and boxspring (I have a piece of plywood inbetween so the indentations from the slats don't make marks on whatever I put under there) and it keeps it flat and stops it from curling on the edges icon_smile.gif also you could just purchase two pieces of plywood and make a slip case for it so that it stays flat at all times icon_wink.gif

LOL mine drove me crazy at first then I duct taped it to my work table. Works great now. I only use it for figures and accent pieces, don't cover my cakes with fondant so don't need to lift it. I suppose I could use a piece of clear vinyl over the mat if I decide to cover a cake.

I bought a silicone mat from bed bath and beyond. It's just one of the bigger silpat mats. I love it.

However, I will need something larger for a cake I have coming up. I went to walmart to get the vinyl, but all they had was the extremely thin kind, and I was hoping for something a little thicker, which they were sold out of when I went. Every time I go to walmart I check, and a month later, they are still sold out of it, but say it will be in the next time they stock. (they say this every time)

I think I'm just going to either (a) use my table cloth protector or (b) go to Joann's and spend the extra dollar or so, provided they actually carry it here.

I've heard a lot of good things about the rolls of vinyl you can purchase from walmart or other fabric stores, but I haven't had the pleasure yet. Also, someone suggested putting the wilton mat underneath the clear vinyl so you still have the benefit of the measurements, if needed.

hrm.. I thought I had a point, but I guess I was just rambling again.. typical me.. hehe

Good luck!!

When you roll your mat up, roll it with the markings on the outside and not on the inside. If you have the 20in rolling pin it wraps around it nicely.

By rolling it with the markings on the outside it will lay flatter on the table and your edges will not want to roll inward like they do when you roll it with the markings faced up.

I have done mine like this for a while and don't have a problem with it.
