I have a question.... I am going to attempt my first FBCT this weekend as a practice....

From looking at thw Tutorial here, with the Winnie The Pooh... you outline the picture in black to start correct? Once you start filling in the colours, doesnt the black get mixed in the colour, knocked around, smudged? Do you need to let the black set before you start filling colours in?

You don't have to use black--I never do. I always outline with the color I am going to fill. If you use a medium or stiff consistency to outline, the colors will not mix at all.

try the recipe on here for buttercream for frozen transfers........it sets up nicely at room temperature.....its' a good crusting buttercream....I don't have any trouble with the black smudging into the colors.......my tinkerbell cake in my photos is one I jsut did with that recipe and it works like a charm IMO

I let my outline freeze and then work in small area and then freeze again on each area so that the lines won't move and smear. This takes a while, but it is worth the extra freezes...imo.

Just take your time and you will do fine thumbs_up.gif

I agree with Stephanie....I outline with chocolate buttercream and then freeze it for at least 15 minutes. I then work in small areas and freeze in between. I have also found that using a small paintbrush helps ease the buttercream into small areas and to combine the buttercream so that it's smooth on the finished side. I use cling wrap to draw on because you can see thru it and it much easier to peel off than wax paper. Also, be sure to make your BCT thick. My first attempts were too thin and fell apart....

I made a Hulk FBCT for my nephew...I have a picture in my photos and it was my fourth attempt, but it was worth it.

I've only done a few but I've used black for outlines and it didn't smudge. You can see in my photos on my CCCs. Just try it. I really didn't believe how easy and fun they - especially how it just "works" if you follow the directions. I used the tutorial on CC with the Winnie the Pooh example too.

Thanks everyone!

Ive picked a very very simple design to try on a cake this weekend.... Its probably too easy, but I figure it will be a nice introduction to FBCT.... then I can slowly move onto more detailed images.

I'll post a pidcture after the weekend icon_smile.gif
