I too went ahead and tried boiling the cans. I did two cans for exactly 3 hours on Medium High and it was the perfect consistency for spreading. I torted a Vanilla Caramel-flavored cake and spread a layer of caramel, used a layer of apple filling from a sleeve, and then iced the whole thing in the caramel.
It is DELICIOUS!!! My whole family loves it!
