I've been using all the great tips you CC'ers have given me, and I've finally baked a cake that's perfectly level! You know what that means though.... no cake scraps and no cake balls! icon_biggrin.gif

There's more than one way to get "scraps"for the cake balls....bake another cake just for the balls, he he he. You get lots of balls that way.

Do you minds telling me which one of the methods you used? My pet peeve about my cakes is the sides- they form a thin raised ridge around the cake and that looks really ugly.

Are cake balls really that good??
I guess I thought they would just taste like 'dunkin donuts' holes.
Am I wrong?

I know what you mean. I've never had scraps, so when I hear this mentioned often, I wonder what I'm doing wrong. icon_lol.gif

My cakes don't come out level, but I do put wax paper and a cookie sheet over them to "smash" them down before taking them out of the pan. Therefore, no scraps.

Sidana - I used a flower nail as a heating core, reduced my heat by 25 degrees and cooked for longer. I also measured my batter exactly so that I didn't overfill my pans... HTH icon_smile.gif

my husband LOVES cake balls, so he's been bugging me ever since my last batch to make him some more icon_biggrin.gif

I'll be trying the flower nail method this week.

As for the cake balls, as the rest have said, just bake another cake JUST for cake balls!

No cake scraps? Well, that's a good thing................no cake scraps coming off the cake means no cake scraps going in the tummy, lol!

I was so desperate for cake balls today that I unfroze one layer of a cake that I made ahead of time just to make some.

THEY ARE SUUUUUUUUUUUUPER GOOD!

I haven't had any cake scraps since someone on this site said to press down lightly on the top of your cake when it comes out of the oven. It works like a charm! thumbs_up.gif And the heating core definitely helps for larger cakes.
