i've never used it before, so i can't tell you if it's good or not. but have you tried Cost Plus? i usually buy dutched cocoa from there. they beat supermarket price hands down.
It's EXCELLENT chocolate, all varieties. What's more, they can claim (and I can vouch) that their 9.7 oz and 3 Kg baking packs are nut and dairy free, which makes them the ONLY chocolate allowed in my house. They are on the expensive side, but it has such a depth and richness of flavor, it's totally worth it. It is also kosher and pareve.
You could always try ordering direct from them:

Keep in mind, any online site shipping chocolate at this time of year is going to insist on at least 2nd Day Air, which will cost you.

MiaT, thanks for the allergy info. i do cakes for my friend's nephew and he is allergic to almost everything imaginable! luckily, he's outgrown many of his allergies. i'll definitely have to stop by the store soon. i work in Berkeley! ![]()
http://www.chocosphere.com/Html/Products/scharffenberger.html the prices here beat artisan confections by a few bucks...
can't find anything about an actual store on their website, only a factory tour... i might have to check that out though!
thanks for all the sites!! I have a recipe that calls for shavings of this type of chocolate to be baked into the cake and a ganache you "flood" over buttercream. Do I buy the bars in big blocks? this cake is so cool, the top o fit is flooded in ganache (using the border as kind of a damm) Has anyone done that?
Hi, just email or call Scharffen Berger & ask them if they have a distributor in your area. Then you can at least buy it wholesale without paying those scary "warm weather packaging" delivery fees. I had good luck doing this with the folks at Valrhona.
