I am going to attempt a castle cake for my dd's b-day this weekend and I wanted the castle walls to be a shimmery greyish purple color. I played around with a little piece of fondant and some colors tonight, and I like the color I got, but I want to make it shimmery. Not neccessarily glittery, but just a touch of shine. What do I do to it?

TIA!

Lustre or shimmer dust will give you a shimmery or shiny reflective look. You can dust it on dry, or mix it with a clear alcohol or a flavouring extract and paint it on. My Tow mater cake in my photos was painted with copper lustre dust.

If you can get a dust called bridal satin this works great. You brush it on over the top of coloured fondant. It tones the colour down and gives a loely shimmery satin effect

If you like the color that you have with the fondant, then dusting on a bit of pearl dust will give it a shimmer look and still have the color you want. Luster dusts come in a variety of colors, so you could use those to enhance the colored fondant as well as giving it a shimmer. Shimmer dusts are nothing but ground up cake sparkles and don't mix well with alcohol--they tend to clump.
