Can someone explain to me how I can make a buttercream hydrangea? I have seen them on cakes and just can't figure it out. It is making my crazy - please help if you know the secret. Thanks. Kathy icon_biggrin.gif

Are you sure it was buttercream? It seems like it would be hard to get the dome shape of the flower- seems like it would be easier in royal icing. Maybe they used a half ball of cake, then piped over it to make the right shape?

The Whimsical Bakehouse has a very nice tutorial on a hydrangea cake. She makes the whole cake look like a hydrangea bush but also goes through how to make the flowers out of buttercream. Maybe that will help you? The link is below.
