I recall reading on Wilton somepalce that you can buy these posts to poke into your cakes and then place the other layer on top. Any good sites that show you how to do this? I am also looking for alternatives to purchasing special plastic posts. Popsicle sticks perhaps?

I need to make a cake for about 20 people and was thinkign of a 12" bottom and an 8" top. I know this is too much cake, but my husband wants it that way. *shrugs* It's his party. Anyways, I am pretty good with fondant and buttercream decorations. I've never stacked before though. I'm nervous.

Thanks!

Depending on the size/weight of the cakes and as long as it is only two tiers, I will sometimes use McDonalds straws as dowels. They are much thicker and more sturdy than other straws...much cheaper too!
