Help! MIL is having a Hawaiian themed Office Party. This would be a paid cake and I really want to wow her and the office. I want to do a Pineapple. If anyone can provide links to others that have done this already, that would be great.
Here's what came to mind on how to do this:
Torte and stack 4 layers.
Carve corners for rounded look
1 or two dowels through the whole cake
For the top:
Create triangle shaped "leaves" from gumpaste and let the dry on a flower former
Attach them to a _________ (?) with candy melts
Attach it to the base of the cake with a ______ (help)
How do I get the base to look natural. I will use a star tip all over it, but would love to do something better if possible!
TIA!!
(Secretly hoping Doug will bless me with a diagram.
)
oh...you don't need a drawing for this...
just do your central dowel by screwing/gluing to a wood base and then lower the tiers over it
and leave it so it sticks up high enough above the cake to glue the leaves to!
(now of course if you have a master woodworker handy, she/he could do it so the dowel itself has threads on it and could create a threaded hole for it to screw into!)
oh...ok...one sketch
HEY! stop waving that chunk of chocolate brownie just out of reach --
here's a second one too.
the basic design of a pineapple is the same one as so many quilted cakes -- the ever popular (for now) triangle
see this clip art: http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/25400/25450/pineapple_25450.htm
for a guide on how to detail the side.
so yellow fondant.
then itty-bitty green leaves that come off of center of each triangle.
then the leaves like you've said.
If you are going to stack that much cake, you might want to separate the cake and dowel halfway up. Does that makes sense? 8 inches of cake might be too heavy.
