My doll is leaning backwards bad! We had a terrible time feeding her into the cake and thru the whole in the cake round then into the base cake. I thought I was doing everything right I measured her feet made sure the hole was big enought put saran wrap on the circle and cut the hole out But after I had put the wonder mold on my base cake and put my dowels in I couldnt find the hole in my cake round for her feet. What should I do next time? I know she is not near as pretty as some I have seen but I would be happy with her for a first try IF she was standing tall. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I always use the dolls on the spike - they have no legs and simply push into the top of the 'skirt'. Or, go to the dollar store and buy the really cheap 'fashion dolls' and pull their legs off. That's a good way to relieve tension and think about when your legs were that skinny! LOL
I think your cake looks fabulous. Maybe Barbie's boobs weren't big enough to make her lean in the right direction! LOL LOL LOL
Can you tell I need to diet.... icon_smile.gif

She's very pretty thumbs_up.gif , just doesn't have good posture. icon_lol.gif
Maybe next time make an 8" round to go directly under the wondermold, no dowelling between, that would make just the skirt tall enough without worries about the feet. Then you can have a cake underneath if you need more servings. I just made my first doll cake and that's what I did.
Doing this also gives a better proportion to the skirt, it looks the right height for the doll.

Hmmm, I've made a few of these cakes (see my gallery) but never had this problem. Could it be that the hole was too large and that's why she is leaning backwards? Maybe you could have stuffed a little extra buttercream on her backside (or fondant) to fill up the hole a little bit. Best of luck to you next time thumbs_up.gif

I always put the Barbie into a paper towel tube to put her into the cake. Her hips fit quite snugly and this holds her upright. I also put the doll in and push it down to the correct height for the skirt (wondermold) with that cake elevated on a glass or something. THEN I put the doll onto the bottom cake. It is easier to make sure the feet get into the right spot that way.

When you use the paper towel roll do you put a cake round on the bottom of the wondermold? I guess that was my first problem - I should have put the doll in before I stacked the cakes. I will have to remember that next time.

The customer wanted her to sit on a square cake that is why I did it that way.

Maybe the hole in the wonder mold was too large? One of my dolls was leaning one time and I filled the hole up with buttercream after the doll was inserted to keep her steady before I decorated it.

She looks pretty, though thumbs_up.gif
