Hi everyone. I'm desperate for help with this...I have some clients who are having a comic book-themed wedding. It's pretty fun - even their invitations are like a comic strip...super creative.

Anyhow, I do not typically make "shaped" cakes - my style is pretty classic/elegant....and this couple wants me to make them a skyscraper or building cake they can place their cartoon action figures on (spiderman & Phoenix, from the X-men).

I'm planning to make a square or rectangle tiered cake & cover the sides in flat panels of something (fondant, chocolate clay...???) to make it look like a building or skyscraper. I just can't seem to come up with a great design....I want it to look kinda comic-booky, if that makes sense. But, still classy - this is a super high-end event...

And, any ideas for a way Spidey could be swinging off the side of the building?

I've searched google, the galleries & threads & couldn't find much.

Thanks for any ideas/pictures/photos you can send my way!!

Best,

Jen N

Hi There!

I'm not an expert (yet!) but I have found a great website you can check out... He has a couple different skyscraper cakes on there. His medium of choice is modeling chocolate (as opposed to fondant). He's been in a few of the cake competitions on Food Network and does awesome work! Also, he has an instructional DVD coming out soon. I hope this helps!

If you click onto the Mike's amazing cakes link- under groom's cakes there is a perfect example. Looks like big city buildings- clean- but sort of a cartoon type look. I like the two different heights- that would be perfect- pheonix could be standing on one layer and you could have a string (spidey's web) stretching from her hand to spiderman's-one pulling the other to the top of the building.

If you check the gallery under Spider Man there are some amazing cakes with great building scenes on them.

Good luck!

do you want it to be one big building? You could make a large cake and add buildings as "panels" for a skyline kind of look - Here is a link to a small birthday cake - just think bigger - -

The building on that site is more of a city building- not exactly a skyscraper. I did a google image search and came up with this. Hope it helps.
