I am making a castle cake for my daughter's birthday and want to make the turrets out of cake. I think I read on here that you can bake in soup cans. How long and at what temperature do I bake it? Also, how far should I fill the soup can so that it will bake to the top?
Thanks!
I have heard of this too, but have not tried it. I would assume you should bake it at the same temp as the rest of the cake, but the bake time will be less because of the small size.
When I do cakes in odd shaped pans I just keep an eye on it and test it with a toothpick (or in this case a stick of spaghetti because of the depth) when it starts to look done.

I have done this several times. Yes, bake at same temp. Just watch for doneness - test with a dry piece of spaghetti that will reach to the center. Fill 1/2 to 2/3 full. Probably better to do 2/3 full - you can always cut off the top. Be sure and grease and flour (or use baking spray) inside the can.

I use this method when making Christmas Cakes each year for our stall to raise funds to go to conference each year. I make cracker christmas cakes which sell really well as they are not too big. I use a tomato sauce can and line it with paper sides and bottom and ¾ full and bake at the normal temperature watching it. I also use golden syrup tins for round mini Xmas cakes and are a good size just for someone who is on their own. See my website.
Wow, the things you learn ![]()
That is beautiful Briarview and such a great idea.
