My sheet cakes are $1.50 per serving, add .25 ps for filling, and for specialty flavors add .25 to .75 per serving.

I have a hard time pricing cakes. All of my cakes are different. I am going to post a picture, if you guys could please help I would really appreciate it. The cake was a 12 by 10 by 6 inch. It also came with a smash cake. It was covered in fondant. Thank you!!!

shelley - what flavors where the tiers that you have in the cake?
Was there any fillings?
What type of icing did you have under the fondant?

These three things will help to determine the price of the cakes.

BTW, very cute cake! I love this theme for a first birthday.

I charge per serving, its the same for my sheet cakes as it would be for a tiered cake. I really don't enjoy doing sheet cakes, so this encourages people go a little "fancier" with a tier. A lot of people charge more for a tier (for obvious reasons) but I do cakes more for a creativity outlet.

Shelley: I would charge $120 for the cake (that's at a $1.50 a serving). I give the smash cake for free for the first birthday. Of course I would only fill with bc and it would be mmf (which is cheaper than a store bought fondant).

The cake was just a vanilla and it had buttercream frosting. Thank you so much for you help.

I charge per serving as well. For a basic white cake, filled with just BC, and covered in fondant this would serve 92. I charge $3.50 per serving so it would be $322.00

Oh, as you can see I do charge more for stacked or tiered cakes. They start at $2.50 for BC and $3.50 for fondant.

Is there fondant on the cake or is it really smooth bc? If its all bc - awesome job on the smoothing!

I calculated 80 servings - that is the party size servings from Wilton. I also didn't include the smash cake in my calculations (which I guess is where ladyonzlake could of gotten 12 more servings). It does depend on which chart for serving sizes you use.

I can't help you with the pricing of that tiered cake; but I must tell you it looks awesome. Your original post says "sheetcake". I charge $28 for an 11x15 and $34 for a 12x18 sheetcake frosted and decorated in buttercream. I always include the smash cake for free for a first birthday. I do a small 8x8 square usually. Decorated simply. Tiered cakes are a whole different story than sheetcakes because of layers, and fillings, and stacking.

Sorry to bump here, but im having some problems too, i made a stacked bc birthday cake nothing fancy will any filling per request, and striped and dots, and didnt really no what to charge her it will serve 47 i usually charge 2.25 for wedding cakes if not to elabrate and 2.50 on up for fondant pieces but i was stumped on this on although it looks like a small wedding cake, i ended up charging her around 1.50 per serving,

There are some people that charge more for a wedding cake than a birthday cake, so there is nothing wrong with doing this. At the moment (since I haven't really done many wedding cakes) I just charge the one price.

I price all my cakes the same per serving. I have my prices broken out as follows so it doesn't matter if it is a stacked cake or a sheet cake. (another way you could specify your cost stacke/sheet instead of wedding/party)
- Single layer with buttercream icing
- Double layer with buttercream filling/buttercream icing
- Double layer with one layer filling and buttercream icing
- Double layer with three layer filling and buttercream icing
With my pricing broke out like this then it doesn't matter what they get I just figure servings they need w/ type of cake they want.

As for how many a sheet cake serves this all depends on how big the sheet cake is and if it is one layer or two layers. So I don't know if $100 is a good price for a sheet cake b/c I don't know how many it would serve. For me with a single layer sheet cake for that price they would get about 66servings (granted I would have to see what size was close to that but that is just for your reference)

Yes, well as I said before all my cakes are the same price per serving. It is much easier that way than explaining to a bride why wedding cakes cost more. (Delivery/set up/and just more stress and more cake). Now - how much a sheet cake serves depends on how many layers it is.

I price my sheets cakes starting at $1.50 per serving and my stacked or tiered cakes starting at $2.50 per serving. I too beleive that a cake should be priced the same reguardless if it's a wedding cake or a special occasion cake. My stacked cakes are more because of the time involved and the extra equipment involved to make them (dowels, more cake boards, ect.)

So one thing that might make a wedding cake more than a celebration cake is the serving size.

Example: According to Wilton Chart:
12" round - 40 servings party size
56 servings wedding size
At $1.50 a serving - 12" round for a party is $60, whereas for a wedding would be $84.

I am interested to know if you guys use different serving sizes for wedding and celebration cakes?

I use a serving size of 1"x2"x4" for all of my cakes for pricing. This is where I get my serving amounts, if they want to cut them bigger then they need to order more cake.

Party sizes are larger than wedding servings, but they cost less? So they are getting more cake for a cheaper price? how about you look at it as you are giving more cake away and making less money?

It is the same amount of cake/icing/filling/Time going into the cake whether they cut 1"x2"x4" pieces or they cut 4"x4"x4" pieces.....

I am sure indydebi will step in with her KFC example here.

This is the size I use for pricing as well. I was interested in knowing how the rest of the cake world operates, I thought maybe this might be one explanation as to why some have a price difference.
