this is my greasy nacho cheese wad i made. what can i do to fix it? this is the result of a) my lack of skill with MMF or fondant in general and b) waaaay too much crisco (i had to put in a lot because my mmf was cracking everywhere...i put too much sugar in it) and c) my lack of icing coloring skills. once its nacho you cant go back!

it supposed to look like a handsome slab of cheese to accompany a wine picnic basket, the cake i'm making tomorrow. what do you suppose would happen if i rubbed cornmeal all over it to sort of absorb up some of the wetness?

I think it looks great the way it is, but if you don't like the shine, you can pat it with a dusting puff (with cornstarch & powdered sugar) then brush it off.

Sorry, I didn't think it would stick like that! I use half and half in my puff and I've never had a problem. Try switching to pure cornstarch to soak up more of the grease, let it sit for awhile to dry and then hopefully you can brush it off.

I think it looks more like Velveeta than Nacho cheese but, hey it looks like cheese!! What kinda cheese were you looking for? Like a Gruyere or something? But I think it looks fine. Not all cheese is white/yellow.

I too think it looks great. You could try patting it gently with a paper towel to try to absorb some of the shiney. You might also consider whipping up a couple of quick mice to stick onto the cheese for further effect.

A really simple way to make mice is to dip a marachino cherry into melted choc let set, then dip again, lay it down on it's side so the stem looks like a tail, then place a hershey kiss on it's side up against the cherry for it's nose than put two slivers of almonds on top for it's ears. Cute cute cute and super yummy

ooohhh there they are!!! I should have known that someone would have a pic of them here. Thanks 7yyrt for putting a picture to my nonsensical ramblings.
I just love these, sometimes I'll just whip up a few for a quick sweet treat for the family after dinner. Everyone who has had them gets the biggest kick out of them, I never thought of putting them on cookies what a great idea, and how fun in a cheese gift basket! Too cute.

thanks for the ideas guys!! i know exactly the mice you're talking about..i made them for christmas last year!

the cake really is nacho cheese...my camera is not so good and those colors are in person about twice as bright as the pic shows. i just loaded in sun yellow wilton dye until i needed shades it was so bright and then added a drop of americolor super red and oooh boy then the color really took flight!

heres what i'm going to do because im a perfectionist and i cant STAND it when i'm unhappy with something. I'll make another cake up and save this one for roomie and bf to snack on (it is afterall only a 5in) and this time im going to try americolor ivory mixed with a smidgen of golden yellow, should look much more natural.
