I am a beginning cake decorator. I would like to make a 3 tier cake in buttercream (still need to work on getting the buttercream smooth on the sides of a cake) but would like to use fondant accents to decorate the cake.

Would this work? Would I use fondant 'adhesive' to attach the fondant decorations to the buttercream, or will buttercream work to attach the fondant?

Thank you

The fondant will attach to the buttercream by itself unless you have a crusty buttercream then all you nned to do is dab a bit of buttercream you have left over on the back of the fondant and it will stick

Some people also use water or piping gel as an adhesive. Make sure that if you are putting fondant accents on the side of a cake that they are not too thick/large/heavy. They will end up sliding down the side of the cake.
