Can anyone tell me how to make the pillowed/stitched look like on the bottom tier of this cake:

(The cake was posted by JennierMI and I happened across it)

I love it and can't wait to try it!

Thanks!

I have an impression mat but I have read about people using a sewing wheel. Search the forums for quilted or diamond pattern. There have been alot of posts about that topic.

I am pretty sure this was done with an impression mat. This is the diamond pattern but they come in several different patterns. You can get them at cakesbysam.com. Hope this helps.

Here is a link to some impression mats - he has a description on the right side on how to use it and if you scroll down to the bottom, there are some examples of cakes done using the mat. They also have several different designs: scrolls, dots, etc.....

Angelgirl, yes it looks like she used the impression mat that BeckySue posted. I used that exact mat to make the impressions on this wedding cake.

It's real easy to use. Can't wait to see your creation. Be sure and post it.

I have this mat as well, it works great on crusting buttercream but not so well on fondant (if the cake has already been covered) so if using fondant, either try to do the impression right after you covered the cake so the fondant is still soft OR you can use a ruler at a 45 degree angle and do it like that with a little plastic wheel. HTH.

you can get the impression mats at most of the online cake decorating suppliers. Earlenescakes.com sells them for $5 each, Country Kitchens also has them, Sugarcraft, GSA, etc.
HTH!
