is there any way to get this effect with buttercream or cream cheese frosting (maybe white choc cream cheese recipe)

i really want to try to sponge -anyone tried it before.

Ive tried a sponge type faux finish on one of my cakes. It was on fondant, though. It's the brown cake. It is meant to look like leather. I'm not sure what you're talking about, though.

For sponge maybe you could try it with an airbrush (if you have one)... Just a thought icon_smile.gif

If you have any extra icing laying around, why not spread it out on some wax paper and give it a try. That away you can try a few different ways to get the affect you want with out messing up a whole cake.
