She was making a football cake for her son and came over to ask me some questions. I luv this lady, so I loaned her the 11x15 pan (she carved the football shape from it), my wilton leveler, 2 big cooling racks, baking strips, decorating bags, tips, and some white bc icing for her to use for the crumb coat (which she'd never heard of doing). Gave her all kinds of tips and advice, like how to pour in two flavors of batter, how to apply the baking strips, reduce the oven to 325, how to flip the cake out of the pan then flip it again so it's sitting on it's bottom on the cooling rack, etc.

She said, "Geesh, I thought it was just a cake!" icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

After the party, she told me the cake was a big hit! She said everyone asked her what bakery she got it from! I said, "Great feeling, huh?" icon_wink.gif She said, "I think I understand why you love this!"

So I told her, "Keep doing 'em ..... I can always use someone to help decorate cakes!"

She's looking forward to the next birthday in her house!! thumbs_up.gif

I know how she feels! My sister got me going and she lives 700 miles from me!

By the way - how do you pour in two flavors of batter? That sounds yummy! icon_razz.gif

sorry for taking so long ... I forgot to mark this one "watch topic"! icon_redface.gif

To pour 2 flavors of batter, I sit one end of the cake pan on an upside down saucer for elevation. Then I pour flavor A in the lower end. Remove the saucer so the pan is flat and immediately pour flavor "B" in the other end. I don't put a divider or anything in the middle ... it doesn't matter if it's not exactly a straight line. Customers don't care.

Nice tip about the two flavors! I have a cake divider, but it only fits a couple of my pans. Thanks!
