I've never made one but I would imagine it's just a matter of stacking squares of cake and then icing them.

this is really easy...just cut out the "block" from a square cake and frost the remaining cake to look like three seperate blocks, look at my pics there's one there...and HOORAY icon_lol.gif I FINALLY got to answer a question instead of always asking!!!

Just make a 9X13 or 1/2 sheet cake depending on size or quantity of blocks. Then cut and stack to size. When I make cut-up cakes, I make the cake the day before I cut it up. It seems to be less crumby.

I would recommend a couple of things.

First, you need to know if you want to make a true square or not. If so, you'll need to bake 3-4 layers depending upon the size of square you're using. I found I was making short, squatty cubes because I didn't have enough layers.

Secondly, if you are going to stack them askew on top of one another I recommend using a plastic separator plate or foam core. Cardboard tends to sag and gives a not-so-nice look.

Finally, make sure you dowel very, very well. You want to make sure the top square is supported on each corner (if applicable) and the center.

Hope this helps.

Are you making a bunch of little blocks or one big block? I did one big block and made four layers 8" square. Each layer was almost 2" deep, so once you got the icing between the layers, it was about 8" by 8" by 8"!!
