Last night I ran out of butter. I wanted to bake last night and decorate tonight. So I didn't want to go to the store or wait until tonight to bake the cakes. So last night I used a stick of margarine in place of butter. Do you think anyone would be able to tell the difference in taste? Has anyone tried this before?

I think it would taste just fine. Not sure what that will do to your consistency though...

I'm sure someone on CC has done this before and can let you know!

I don't think it'll be a problem at all. I use margarine all the time. Some food connoisseurs (sp?) might be able to tell a difference, but everyone will love it!

I saw a couple of buttercream recipes here that called for margarine instead of butter so I'm sure it will be fine except the color may not be true white.

Thanks all. Tomorrow I'll know for sure if anyone can taste the difference since I will be at the event that I'm making the cake for. icon_smile.gif

Just wanted you to know that I got rave reviews on the cake with margarine in it. I'm so relieved. icon_biggrin.gif
