What does everyone wrap their cake boards in? So far I've been using freezer paper. Where does everyone get whatever it is that they use?

TIA

Freezer paper has always worked perfect for me. It's nothing fancy and not very expensive, so I always stick with it!

Freezer paper works for us to. When we want a fancy board we use scrapbooking paper(bought very inexpensively) and wrapping paper. Both get covered with plastic wrap. We still bake only for family and friends so there is no need to get any fancier.

Tons of people use that stickyback cupboard liner. Many different designs and colors. I have made my own on my computer....find what background I want then print it outicon_wink.gif

Another thread on CC suggested using contact paper.

I have used it now and won't go back to freezer paper or foil. It is GREAT. Comes in a variety of colors and patterns, plus if you want to use wrapping paper or scrap book papers - just cover with the clear contact paper.

I usually use wrapping paper covered with contact paper, but am going to try fabric and contact paper for the first time next week. I found an inexpensive fabric at Walmart that has a design that will compliment the cake.

So what do you use to adhere the fabric to the back of the cake board?
How do you get it around the board w/o bunching?

I got cheap particle board (I think that's what it is, the same material as a clipboard) from Home Depot for $1 each. Dh cut it to my specifications, I covered it in foil, than bought cheap plastic table cloths from the 99 cents store and cut it to fit. I just taped it to the back of the board. The tablecloths are huge and can be cut many times and come in lots of colors.

it's a thicker type of paper.......maybe like parchment, only you can't see through it it's white and is glossy on one side........it's used by butchers and fish mongers to wrap the meat in.....you might have seen it if you've ever order meat from one of the deli things in a grocery store. Reynold's makes some.......it's in the same section as aluminum foil

Do you keep reusing the same boards or do you make new ones for each cake?

The problem I have is with bunching whether its a square, round, or any shape cake board.

Krysoco, I wrap the square and rectangles just like a present. The round is tricky but below is a link that may help you. I've never had to cover an odd shape board but I guess you would follow the technique used for a round board, cutting slits. Hope this helps.

I too, use the particle board covered with coordinating tablecloth, colored folis, etc. When I come across a nice marble board on sale or something for a good price, I grab those for my more elegant cakes and yes, I request that the boards be returned and reuse-recover them for each cake. If it's a simpple cake, I'll just use the regular cake boards from the store so the client doesn't have to return anything to me. Like the others said though- the possibilities are endless- icing, fondant, fabric, you name it. Have fun!!

Since I only bake for family and friends I do reuse them. Depending on the condition of the table cloth cover I either wash it off or replace.

what dept. is the contact paper located?

Thanks for the link! Oh, and also for all the cake board ideas.

Just wondering though when its a fancy cake... wouldn't you want the cake to stand out. Meaning that you would cover the board in some thing not really noticable.

I keep it simple, if its a white cake I cover in a white tablecloth, you can get contact paper in walmart near the housewares section.

I use the floral paper from the local florist, it comes in several different colors and is fairly inexpensive. I like it better then anything else i've used because it's thick and has a clear plastic wrap over it that is very easy to clean off the icing from and doesn't get cut or torn up when cutting the cake.
