I need to make a Curious George cake for my cousins 1st birthday. I have the pattern I wish to use, however, how in the world do I get it on the cake w/o using piping gel??? I thought I read somewhere about tracing with a toothpick??? How do you do that???

Also, the eyes, ears and such are relatively small. How do I get the detail w/o making it look all smooshed???? PLEASE HELP!!!!

Ok... this might not help... but here goes...

Method 1: place image onto cake once bc icing is "crusted" and then pin-prick where the main image lines are, lift the picture and then "dot-to-dot" the pin pricks.

Method 2: Pipe reverse image in royal icing onto greaseproof paper... once dri & hard, before bc starts crusting too much... lay image on cake and CAREFULLY remove paper... should leave behind the royal icing... touch up if required.

Good luck

Have you ever tried a buttercream transfer? That's another method. Here are instructions.

I'd do a FBCT or a chocolate transfer (I have examples of both in gallery) depending on the look you are going for.

KopyKake is a projector that you use to project the image down onto the cake and wala! You just have to trace it out and fill it in however you would like. My cakes are all done with it it you want to take a look. They also have a website www.kopykake.com it works wonders. I can't live without it!

I have to say go with the frozen butter cream transfer. It is really easy. I've only done two but I assure you, it is the way to go! I have done a Superman logo and the second one was Lightening McQueen from the Cars movie that are posted in my photos.
