Hi Y'all,

Happy Pre Holidays!!

I have printed the formula, bought all the ingredients and I am ready to make what has to be a WOW cake for the Demons 3rd birthday. Inlaws will be here again and lots of smart remarks because I am making the cake instead of buying it. I am using a rainbow brite pan.

So anywho, my questions is: Do I add the ingredients on the list PLUS what the box says or just the stuff on the list?? Should I use the baking pan strips?

Cake mix is French vanilla, Icing is Crusting cream cheese and the filling I found in a thread here on CC but have not seen it since, is a cream cheese like Costcos.

Thanks for the advice in advance.

Charli

Hi, Charli!

In answer to your first question, yes, you use all the ingredients on the box, plus the added ingredients of the enhancer recipe.

To answer your second question, Baking Strips are a highly debates subject on this forum. Personally, I do not use them, but many do.

Depending upon what size pan you are using, and how deep it is, you might consider using them anyway.

Anyone else?

I would recommend avoiding Duncan Hines French Vanilla and use another brand, not sure which mix you got....

There are postings here about the DH french vanilla having a strong aftertaste.... I agree!

As a warning to others and self--NOTE: Check CC before shopping! icon_lol.gif

I've used DH before but I will always replace the oil with butter and the water with milk. I also add a bit more vanilla and everyone has loved it.

Good luck. Let us know how the cake comes out. Hope you blow the socks off the in laws!

Charli,

I love the super enhanced cake formula but I DO NOT add the box ingrediants in addition to what the recipe calls for. I read this from several different people because I had the same question when I first started out. I'm sure it doesn't hurt to add the box ingrediants, too. You would probably have a lot more batter but isn't it kind of thin? I'm no expert, so please let me know what happens when the cake is done. I'm really curious. Hope it turned out well for you and happy baking.

Hi y'all,

Well the cake does not taste like french vanilla--just a very moist white cake. This is ok because it does not taste bad. icon_smile.gif I added all of the ingredients and the stuff the box says, I made it twice, and now have 3 cakes. I only wanted 2. I filled the pans almost to the top, cake did not rise alot.

Is it normal for the character pans to have the cake shrink--a lot? As the cake cooled for 10 minutes in the pan it pulled at least 1/4 inch from the sides. Could very well be my cursed oven--still need a new oven.

Silly me did not tort or trim the top cake--sort of lopsided. But the inprinted side of the pan/cake is smaller than the bottom of the cake--I stacked the 2 cakes. Lined up great--huge gap to fill in with icing. I am laughing so hard.

Oh how long does it take for the Crusting Cream Cheese Icing to crust? I have been waiting about 30 minutes for the crumb coat to crust so i could Ice the sides nice and then start the face with stars.

If I ruin this, what ideals do ya have for a Rainbow Brite theme. Toys on top of a sheet cake are out of the question. Toys are only available on ebay. Yes I have looked.

Thanks for all the wonderful help.

Ha Ha Ha! No, I have Geana Elizabeth and Lillian Victoria.

Geana was named because of her initials GEM. When we named her we did not know her birth mothers name is Elizabeth. When Liz found out what we would name her she decided right then, that we would be her parents.

Lily was named by her birth parents. If we would have named her it might have been Grace Elaine. But Lily is pretty.

Devil and Demon--Demons do the Devils bidding, especially with these two.

I was under the impression that you DO NOT add the ingredients of the Super Ehnanced Cake Formula to what the back of the box calls for. Then you'd end up with 6 eggs total and almost double the liquids and oils too?

I have been using the cake mix as an ingredient as you would flour, and just IGNORING the back of the box, following exactly what the Enhanced Recipes call for, and they've all turned out really well, rose nicely, etc.

Hi Y'all,

Now that the party is over I think that I will try a cake without the stuff on the back of the box. This cake was so moist that it looked underbaked when cut. It was very heavy, but tasted great. I think the butter, covered up any vanilla flavor or aftertaste the cake mix contained.

And the best part of the party--Inlaws did not show up! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Happy pre-holidays!

sleepygrl- How funny! I was going to say they would not live up to those names (as Devil and Demon) they are far too precious!! I hope you didn't mind me asking. I looked at their pictures first and then there "names" and thought huh?!!! I have a little girl too who is three her name is McKinley but we have called her Boo Boo since she was born and are trying to break the habit. I can see her when she is 6 saying "Mom, stop calling me Boo Boo, I'm not a baby anymore!"

That's funny about the nicknames of your girls. I used to call my daughter Satan's Child. She was always into everything. Come to think of it 14 years later she still is.

I have to ask though. What is the Super Ehnanced Cake Formula?

Please don't call your children anything that you don't want them to become. It is never a good idea to call your children demon or devil.

Charli,

I'm glad your cake tasted great. You're a funny one and laughing about the in-law remark. I used to use the super enhanced cake formula recipe but found another cake mix enhancer that tastes much, much better, has fewer crumbs and the denisty is wonderful, in my opinion. It is called the "Durable Cake for 3D and Wedding Cakes" and can be found in the recipe section under cake mixes here on CC.

Lil, the super enhanced cake formula is a recipe found here on CC that calls for flour, sugar, eggs, etc., plus a box of cake mix.

Happy baking all!
