can you tell me how i go about coloring a bow (for a fondant gift box cake). i like this sample cake with metallic blue ribbon so i'm trying to duplicate it. do i color the bow first with some type of royal blue color, then use luster dust to go over the outside a bit. or do i use luster dust to color the white fondant to make it blue. wouldn't it be difficult to color the bow since there are lots of curves and sides to it.

Although I sometimes color white gumpaste pieces with nothing but luster or petal dust, I usually try to color the gumpaste or fondant itself to match the final color that it will be when it's dusted. Especially if I'm doing a deep color, like the blue you mentioned. That way you'll use less dust, and if you miss any spots, it will be okay.

Like Toomuchcake mentioned, I would color the gumpaste blue first. Also, try coloring your royal or chocolate that you use as "glue" to hold the bow together. It makes it less noticeable.
