Before I did my first doll cake, I researched here & found that most suggested using 2 boxes of cake mix, so that is what I did. I also wanted a taller doll cake so I added a 2-layer 9: round cake underneath. Total of 3 cake mixes. I also used a doctored cake mix which makes it more dense so I didn't have a problem with it breaking.

I just made my first doll cake the other day (picture in my photos). It split a little, but I used some spackle to plug the split. i mounted it on a sheet cake so we would have enough servings. I think it split because of the real doll. I would make sure to lower the shelf in the oven enough - mine was a bit high, so the top of the cake burned a bit.

Other than that, it went pretty well.
