Hi, this is my first post here and I was wondering where everyone started with their cake decorating? I have seen all of these beautiful cakes and would like to learn myself. I live in Southern Oregon and can't seem to find much in classes except one at Micheal's. Any books, websites ect... recommended to learn the very simple basics and work up from there? Thanks Erika

A lot of people start with the wilton classes at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. Look around at stuff on here, there's lots of info about how to do stuff.

For years I have been wanting to be able to decorate a cake. I have loved baking and cooking since I can remember. I didn't know where to start until someone said take a class, so I did. The Wilton classes at Michaels are a good place to start. You get a kit that starts you out and you have an instructor to help you. I enjoyed my classes, but they really are a starting point. I got so motivated that I have even sold a few cakes to friends and family. I say go for it and have fun!

I too always wanted to learn to decorate. Last year I was finally able to take the Wilton classes at Hobby Lobby. I am glad I did. After taking all the classes a whole world of cake decorating opened up! I didn't realize how much is out there. Now I am teaching the Wilton classes and loving it and decorating every chance I get. So I would say definitly take the Wilton classes they are a great place to start.

I had been wanting to take a class, but just didn't do it. I finally bought tips and the wilton books. I just started making cakes. I am now taking the wildtons 1 class. I have learned more than I thought I would.
