This is my first time doing chocolate fondant, and I have a few questions: How is the taste ???... I need to cover first the cake with buttercream, chocolate buttercream or something like that?????... I want to do a cake for my husband birthday party next week. I want to do a chocolate fondant cake with strawberries on the top. Thank you... icon_smile.gif

I have only used chocolate fondant once, and I used the Wilton recipe. I found that it did not taste chocolatey at all, and was very oily to work with - but it did look good. I think I saw a recipe on cake central for chocolate marshmallow fondant, which may taste better. Yes, you will need to vocer the cake in buttercream first.

The chocolate fondant from here is delicious.I made it recently for my DH's birthday. I made a chocolate cake, covered in chocolate buttercream and then covered in chocolate fondant. Post a picture when you're done icon_smile.gif

i just bought choc satin ice, and oh my gosh, it tastes like brownies! very yummy. my experience with choc mmf is that no matter what i do it looks streaky and not very pretty, though it does taste good. heres an example, i did the first cake with choc mmf, hated it, so i redid it with choc satin ice and i think it now looks gorgeous(these were dummy's)

theres a huge difference! (oh, and i got a stupid bubble top on the first one, cause that was real cake, so that wasn't the fondants fault! lol)

I see the difference between the first one and the second one. I don't know if I have time for buy chocolate satin ice, and I really want to try a recipe, but I need one recipe with very chocolatey taste.

As an alternative, you could also try doing a chocolate wrap. I think ShirleyW has a "How to..." posted on here somewhere. I've seen some very beautiful ones with strawberries on top.

Just an idea..

I haven't really worked with fondant yet, so I'm kind of in the same boat. I need chocolate/black fondant for a groom's cake I'm doing in september. I'm going today to see if I can find a local store that sells something tasty.

Good luck! I hope to see your cake when you're finished. icon_smile.gif
