Hey,

Anybody signd up for or know about any good classes coming up in the DC/MD/No. VA area? I am not looking for Wilton classes and I already know about the classes this fall at PGCC. Any local bakeries, shops or anyone else hosting anything?

Thanks!
Toni

Hey Toni,

I'm signed up to take two cake decorating classes at L'academie de Cuisine. I'm so excited because I go to the fondant class tomorrow!

Here is a link to their site:

Hi Elaine

After this weekend would you mind sharing how you enjoyed the class?
PS thanks for the link.

Someone mentioned on a thread a few days ago that Fran's is getting ready to start classes again soon. I've been meaning to call and find out if that's true and if so, what kind of classes. I don't think she would do Wiltons but I could be wrong.

The classes at L'academie de Cusine are real nice and the instructors are good. I never got to take the Fondant class though

Well, the class was fine. I'm not really sure what I expected to get out of this class (I guess I was just thrilled it was a professional school). If you've never worked with fondant, I'd suggest taking the class. I thought they were going to have premade fondant but we got to make MMF. I've made it before at home but it was still fun. I was surprised at how small the classroom was but it wasn't too bad. There were two people per station so you worked with a partner. I'll be taking cake decorating 101 next month and I'm looking forward to that because we'll make IMBC...I don't have any experience with making that kind of icing. A cake was provided for each person and we got to take home the leftover fondant.

In case anyone else was interested: I called Fran's today. They don't teach any classes there but recommend folks check out Fairfax County Adult Education. They have classes starting in the fall with a few really goog instructors.
