Hi Everyone,

My soon-to-be 4 year old (daughter) wants oreo cookies for her school birthday (in-class) party. Now I'm thinking, great, because we are moving the day after her birthday, and frankly with all the boxes and packing and setting up a new house ... I'm thrilled to not have to bake for once.

But I feel guilty bringing in a bag of oreo cookies. I feel like I should decorate them somehow, or make them special somehow. I just don' t have any ideas. It will be for the in-school party and DD is the oldest in her class, so the rest of the kids are 3. I just can't see them singing happy birthday to her over a couple of oreo cookies!

Any ideas? Please??

Get a letter candy mold and make the letters to spell out happy birthday ______. You can make them well ahead so you don't have to do it around the packing. The day of her birthday use melted candy to glue them to the oreos, arrange on a tray.

I think Wilton makes and ice cream candy mold and a girl power 2 pack, if you can find them at Hobby Lobby or Michaels you could mold those ahead and put them on the extra. Or see what your local cake store has for other brands of molds.

this is pretty silly but you could make it in the shape of a cake by using dabs of icing to glue the cookies in stackes. then write on the top and put a few icing decorations just to stick the candles in.

You could make chocolate dipped oreos. You could maybe use milk/dark chocolate and then accent with white chocolate to make them look "fancy". You could even dip in sprinkles too - kids love that.

Don't feel guilty about not doing a cake. Little kids seem to like cookies better than cake, at least in my experience. Put little bc flowers on each one. And you might use some of the Oreos that are vanilla too. In case there are any that don't like choclate ones. The dipping sounds nice, but remember too much sugar can be a problem for the teacher, later. Hyper 3 year olds. icon_surprised.gif Hope this helps some. Chrysb

If she wants oreo, I don't see anything wrong with that! If you're really wanting to make them special. . .

We used to make oreo spiders when I was a teacher. My first graders loved it! Here's what we did:

We put two oreos together to make the two parts of the body. Then, we took pretzel sticks and broke them in half and pushed them into the oreo for the legs. Then, using a little icing, we put M&Ms on for eyes. The kids loved them! I'm sure you could add more detail, but I kept it simple for my first graders since they were having to read and follow the directions.

I think that you could make really pretty oreos. Dip them in white chocolate and then sparkly sprinkles.
