Never ask me to explain auctions. Those must be lined with gold. My girlfriend collects cookie cutters. I'll ask tomorrow what the significance is with these.
I felt the same way when I watched a Martha Stewart beehive pan sell! I collect several different things so I see this often. You wouldn't believe what some of those M & M or Pillsbury Doughboy items bring. I collect both.

We used to have to drill little vent holes in ours with a dremmel tool..lol
After my first set, I never , ever bought any more, they were more of a pain in the neck than they were worth. I tried to see the image, but the bidding is over and the item is no longer there..

Holy jumping jehosaphat....I am in the wrong business if plastic cookie cutters are selling for that on ebay. I checked out the bidding and the same person kept raising the bid but in the end someone else got them. Geez..I would be afraid to use them for fear that I would melt old Jack Frost.... 
They're actually turn of the century antique plastic cookie cutters imported from saturn's third ring brought to earth by none other than E.T himself. (They were his great, great grandmother's) That's why they are so valuable....he he he...
ROFL!!! That's just too funny. I had to double check to make sure I read that winning bid price right... That is just crazy! If I had money like that, I'd be buying any little knick knack just for the heck of it...
Hmmm. I think that the person who was bidding themself up had placed a "maximum" bet so when someone else would go to place a bid, it would jack up the previous ??better's?? bet... LOL. Ok, I'm tired. I should just go to bed... LOL

That person wasn't raising the bid....what happened is they set what is known as a "max bid".....then someone tried to outbid them and it raises the bid to the next highest to beat the new person's bid....so it appears that they are bidding against themselves. Then when the new bidder beats the original's max bid, it will show them as the winning bid. At least that's what I think happened there.
OK...and what in the world is up with those cutters? I can hear my husband laughing if I told him I wanted a cookie cutter for anything over $10!
This is exactly why I don't do auctions! The one time I bid was when I went with a girlfriend to a farm aution down the road from me and and found an old soup turine I wanted so she said she'd bid for me. Well after watching a while it looked pretty easy so went ahead and made a bid on it myself. I was bidding against her (myself actually!!) and was sooo excited when I GOT IT!! LOL It never occurred to me that I was bidding against her. I guess I was pretty dumb back then (20 yrs +) but I bet I could get stupid and do it again, so I still stay away from auctions. LOL !!! She and I still laugh about that. I'll leave e-bay to you!! But good luck!
Just got off the phone with my girlfriend that collects cookie cutters and she knows nothing about these particular cutters. I asked if she had a book on them and she doesn't--so much for that idea!
It is a case of supply and demand where collectibles are concerned. Obviously these must be hard to find. You should see what the Pillsbury Doughboy finger puppets bring. No way I can afford them for my collection. As they say.............one man's trash is another man's treasure.

I think they are just adorable and they are probably quite rare so I can understand how the price is that high. Would I pay that much? NO WAY lol but I have a snow globe collection (around 40 of them) so I'm sure if I saw a rare one I might go a little crazy lol I also have a pillsury cookie jar which I bought new and it cost $60. cdn about 10 yrs ago and I have a Planters peanut jar about 14 inches tall really cute from around 1930's so who knows what people think lol
I wouldn't dare post what I have paid for some of my collectibles. You guys would think I was crazy. Being bit by the collectible bug is worse than being addicted to CC. I bought a character pan off of Ebay and the next thing I knew, I had a shed full of them. Sad part is that I hardly ever use one of them (BUT I KNOW THAT THEY ARE THERE IF I EVER NEED ONE ).
I have over 300 whiskey pitchers, at least 1000 M & M collectibles, close to that many Doughboys, Budweiser steins (all the holiday ones), old irons, old kitchenware, antique furniture, and all kinds of sports memorabilia for the Chiefs, Cardinals, and Jeff Gordon. Guess I am just an addict all way around................

They weren't bidding themselves up, they were trying to outbid a previous bidders proxy......ummm............wow! look at that sellers feedback! Pretty good!
Maybe we should email them and ask them whats so special about them....I'm assuming they're antique or vintage, but stilll.........HOLY COW!!!! If I had money like that to spend on cookie cutters, well......

But, forget finding 100 of them to sell, lets just go into business and make them......I know, I know, then the price wouldn't go up on them.......did you see the starting bid............$5.
Maybe that particular cutter has some childhood significance for the buyer. I know that if I wanted something from my childhood and I could afford it, I probably would bid more than it is actually worth to others. I mean, the other day I paid $4 for a package of 8 FIZZIES.... that was 50 cents each just so my kids can experience a peice of my childhood.

More than one person must have wanted them for the bid to go that high. I am determined to find out what they usually sell for. Just haven't had time to look in any of my antique books.
