!--Is There A Way To Seal Gumpaste Accents W/o Softening?
Decorating By elvis Updated 27 Jul 2007 , 3:46am by elvis
Yesterday I made some gum paste accents for a cake- they were firm and I put them in a zip lock. Today they were soft again.
I had planned on mailing some to a friend. Is there any way to seal gum paste without them softening?
Thanks for any advice you can give me!
Gumpaste needs more than just a few hours to thoroughly dry. If your pieces are more than 1/2 inch thick anywhere, they're going to need a week or more to dry properly.
Don't ever store gumpaste figures in an airtight container. Moisture gets trapped and will degrade the gumpaste. If you have no choice, then put a few of those silica packets in the container.
The Wilton bows aren't gumpaste. They're a paper fiber that can be dusted, painted, or dyed by dipping. They don't respond the moisture the same way as gumpaste.
