I get several emails daily with cooking information. One of them today has some Delce De Leche in it that you can purchase. So for those that aren't comfortable making it with the boiling can and have trouble with the other methods this may be a good alturnative for ya.

Just thought I would share it.

La Salamandra 16 oz Dulce de Leche Milk Caramel
[ Item # 1591 ] Our Price $6.99

There is nothing in American supermarkets that compares to this delicious caramel spread. A traditional South American dessert, La Salamandra is made fresh daily from whole milk, sugar and vanilla, the brand ranked first in local Argentine tastings and is prized for its depth of caramel flavor and creaminess. It is delicious on fruit (apples, bananas, melon, strawberries.... ) and superb on ice cream, waffles and crêpes.

I just love Dulce de Leche, where I come from we eat every day, mmmm on a toast with some butter and you put that on top, yummy!!
I use it all the time for my cakes, you have to be careful because there is a diference with caramel and dulce de leche, caramel is made from sugar and butter and dulce de leche is from milk and sugar, also there are some kinds of dulce de leche that are very soft, I used to use pastry dulce de leche, is more dense and it holds perfect on cakes, it would never run or drip.
Since I live here now, I don't have the posibility to get the pastry kind, but I found something that is very, very close, Nestle makes it and is very afordable, only $1.99 per can, I get mine at Albertons and food4less, is usually in the latin food aisle.
If you never tried it, don't miss it, you'll love it, last weekend I made cake balls with it and they were gone in minutes.
I mixed 8 cups of cake scraps with one and a half can of dulce de leche and added just a splash of amaretto, dipped them in white chocolate, also I put some dulce de leche in a pastry bag with a tip #5 made the cake ball and push the center with my thumb and piped a little bit inside and re rolled again, I can't tell you how much yummy they are!!

i agree, dulce de leche is awesome. i used the boiled condensed milk version, much cheaper than buying the dulce de leche already prepared.
